Updated research on Retirement Standards

Home > Financial Focus

The most recent national figures released for the The Association of
Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) show that, in general, a couple looking
to achieve a comfortable retirement needs to spend $56,317 a year, while those
seeking a ‘modest’ retirement lifestyle need to spend $32,603 a year.
The budget for a comfortable retirement lifestyle generally includes costs that
would enable an older, healthy retiree to be involved in a broad range of leisure
and recreational activities and have a good standard of living.
The budget for a modest retirement lifestyle is generally better than the Age
Pension, but only allows retirees to afford fairly basic activities.
